Mary Swift aka SwiftSwan primary Master Instructor

Mary Swift is the owner of Afterguard Sailing Academy, her 3rd and final ASA school. She has also developed a CSU college program, America's Club legacy program and expanded a City sailing education program. One of 3 who pioneered Crew Overboard trails in SF Bay 1994-95 and 2005 with many on-site clinics that evolved into Safety at Sea programs..

Mary started teaching as a volunteer in 1984-85. Became a licensed USCG Captain and ASA instructor in 1985. She was the first woman Instructor Evaluator for ASA in 1997. Has been running ASA Instructor clinics every year since. 

Mary lead the development of ASA 210/110 - Small Boat Sailing for ASA in 2000. As Mary SwiftSwan you will see her picture as one of 4 team Authors of the American Sailing texts for ASA 101 issued 2010 and 103 issued 2012. Was honored to be asked to participate as one of the editors for the new ASA texts being written in 2025 and released in 2026.
