How to Get Started

There are many ways to get on the water with Afterguard, whether you’re looking to gain experience, meet fellow sailors, or just have fun. The more you sail, the better you become. Here’s how to get involved:

Join our Crew List. This free member benefit helps connect you with opportunities on the water.

Be sure to note your certifications (BK1-106. How you want to participate - Crew or Skipper) and your goals.

Skipper or Crew? Turn your sail time to reward time.

If you are on a charter you earn points; Skipper=5 points, First Mate= 4 points, crew=3 points.

Why points? How to use them for classes.

BK1 - ASA 101 no points required.

ASA101 and ASA 103 - recommend 5 points, not required

ASA 103 to ASA 104 - require 10 points

ASA 104 to ASA 106 - require 25 points

Need to earn points prior to get your next class? How? Crew or work up to taking the helm to Skipper a Charter.

If you own your own boat, can document time out of the slip on waterways to get point recognition.

Points have value after classes:

If taken all the classes for now, use points for charter.

100 points=half day on a 23' boat or $175 credit toward boat of choice

200 point=full day on a 23' boat or $250 credit toward boat of choice.

and.. points are cool.
