Who is this course for?

The BK1 (Basic Keelboat) course is for those totally new to sailing or who have sailed a little but want to start their formal sailing training from the ground up. 

 

This course is a great place to start to develop a solid foundation to learn to be a confident sailor. It also prepares participants to take the online California Boaters card test.

What you will learn

Things you'll learn on the BK1 course Include:

  • The important things about sailing boats and how they work

  • How to be a useful and effective crew member

  • Simple sailing language and theory so you can understand and speak sailing.

  • How to stay safe while sailing

  • Three important sailing knots (Bowline, Cleat Hitch and Larks head)

By the end of the course BK1 Participants will have experienced sailing and be ready to sail with friends or family or to progress to the ASA 101 - Basic Keelboat class

What to expect

BK1 is a fun filled 2 days, learning the basics of sailing and gaining enough knowledge to be a competent crew member or first mate. Those with a little more sailing experience may also choose the ASA101 course as a starting point.
