Join Afterguard Foundation for a wonderful Black Tie Gala – Enjoy a Crab Feed, ‘Hidden Treasures’ Silent and Live Auction, Dancing and the knowledge that you are helping support underserved youth all for just $100!

Afterguard Sailing Academy has been called "The Little School with Heart" for the way adults and youth are treated when they choose Afterguard – whether it be for ASA courses or just a sail around the Bay. What many do not know is Afterguard also has a 501c3 Foundation developed around our charitible works. Afterguard Sailing Foundation has evolved a unique series of sailing courses paired with the Math and Science curriculum at Oakland Emiliano Zapata Street Academy High School. Math and Science teacher Jeremy Cavagnolo is a former student of Afterguard and could think of no better way to keep his students engaged and hard-working. To the students, this program is referred to as “Destination Graduation” and it has successfully encouraged students to stay in school, keep their grades up, and look forward to more education. Destination Graduation was put to the test at the Street Academy and early statistics show that it has helped increase the graduation rates there. Eventually, we are hoping to expand Destination Graduation to incorporate other underserved communities in and around Oakland.

For the last five years, we have run this program without funding from outside sources. The school ran out of funds after just 2.5 years but the kids wanted to keep sailing and we could not say no. Now we need your help to keep them sailing! A successful Gala would provide The Afterguard Sailing Foundation with funding cover our current groups and re-open the doors to new groups. Our long terms goals are to extend the outreach to new schools in the community. We also have plans to make a boating skillshare possible to to all ages in our community, through our scholarship programs.

So now we proudly invite you to come hunt for Hidden Treasures on February 15 at the California Ball Room in Oakland. We will start the treasure hunt during the silent auction then have a chance to battle our fellow attendees for the best of treasures during the live auction. We close the evening with dancing to best of Frank Sinatra performed by our own Perfectly Frank (Capt. Steve Swan) and a fine Tribute band. So grab your crab fork, lay out your best dress, put on your dancing shoes and enjoy a great time for a good cause!
