Sailing can be addicting. It has proven so for the owners. Mary began sailing in 1980, teaching in 1984 and had a captain’s license by 1985. In 1988 Mary took a group of ladies as the first all women team to sail from Oakland to Catalina Island. They are setting a reef in 35 knots heading out the Gate in the shot above. That Targa 10.1 is still part of the training and charter fleet. Mary shares sailing as a true passion. That passion includes a school that had options for all skill levels, where youth and couples are welcome. See Youth pg.
Mary is also the first woman IE for ASA. She is a writer and photographer. She and Steve share their photos. Look at Gallery with photo samples for prints, posters, cards, art wear and more.

Steve is a fine and patient basic Instructor for Afterguard. He started sailing with an elderly friend who would do all the work to set up the boat, take it away from the dock, then hand the helm to Steve and go below. Steve sailed in and out of Berkeley with him for a few years. He began single-handing before he knew how to sail well. Since he has learned to sail very well over the past 7 yr. He still loves to single-hand and continues to enjoy sailing as much as teaching it.
Steve is a talented musician, composer and singer. After giving Rock and Roll a break, early 00s, he began singing the songs made famous by Frank Sinatra and other legends. He actively performs singing, playing guitar and bagpipes. To hear Steve sing listen to him on www.voiceofsteveswan.com.You’ll be amazed.
